Project goals

The aim of the project was to develop laser technology to obtain the metal surface with controlled anisotropic mechanical properties. To achieve this aim, the steel surface was irradiated using different laser beam parameters, including wavelength, intensity, pulse duration, dose and characterized by different investigation methods.

Main activities and venues

  1. Latvia, Riga Technical University: samples’ preparation and its modification by laser irradiation in order to obtain LIPSS on the surface of steel samples. Study of wetting properties.

  1. Lithuania, Vytautas Magnus University: Mechanical properties were studied using Micro Scratch and microhardness tester (CSM), Tribotester TRM 500, Wear machine SMC-2.

  1. Germany, University of Stuttgart: Characterization of the surface of samples by HRSEM.

Public events

  1. Workshop, October 2020. University of Stuttgart, L. Grase, J. Padgurskas, A. Zunda. Available for the students and general public interested in the topic.
  2. 61th International Scientific Conference of RTU, October 2020, Riga Technical University, L. Grase, J. Padgurskas, A. Zunda. Available for the students and companies participating in the conference.

Direct and indirect target groups

Direct target group:

The direct target group of the project disseminated the obtained results, presented them at the conference and in a scientific seminar of Riga Technical University, as well as published a scientific paper in journals with high enough impact factor, which are cited in SpringerLink, SCOPUS, DBLP or Thomson Reuters (ISI WEB of Knowledge) databases. The number of persons involved in the direct target group is 7.

Indirect target group:

The indirect target group of the project got the information about the obtained scientific results, by participating in the seminar, as well as from the published scientific paper in one of the above-mentioned databases. In this way, access to the project results was ensured for the indirect target group. These results will be used in the education process as a complement to recent achievements in science, as well as in the development of new directions of manufacturing. The number of persons involved in the indirect target group is 50.
